L’oro di Napoli Hanwell – The Best Neapolitan Pizza in West London

Every good neighbourhood needs its own go-to pizza spot — I found mine back in April, during the chaos of moving into my new apartment and spending long evenings assembling flat-pack furniture after work. On my bus journeys into Hanwell, I’d pass right by L’oro di Napoli, a small Neapolitan pizza restaurant with a colourful, welcoming interior. I added it to my list of places to try almost immediately.

One evening, after yet another flat-pack battle, I gave in to temptation. I found the L'oro di Napoli website and ordered a pizza. Starving, I ran to the store, grabbed my pizza and ran home. I was greeted with a classic Neapolitan pizza that looked so good I started laughing with excitement. The taste was exceptional and I’ve been hooked ever since.

In fact, every pizza I’ve tried so far has been bursting with flavour and truly authentic — made with Italian ingredients and cooked in a clay oven, giving each base its signature charred edge. If you look closely, you’ll even spot Neapolitan takes on high street favourites: the Pulcinella is their version of a pepperoni, while the Caruso is a meat feast, albeit with ingredients you'd more likely find on the streets of Naples than a supermarket shelf.

For more adventurous eaters, there are a few avant-garde choices too. The Eduardo De Filippo, for example, comes without tomato sauce and is topped with aubergine, vibrant pesto, pine nuts, and Parmesan. From experience, the staff are always kind enough to ask if you’d prefer yours with sauce.

Each slice is served thin, with a beautifully blistered crust — airy and chewy from the dough’s long fermentation, like a pillow with just the right resistance. Sometimes, it’s the part I look forward to most, especially when dining in, where I can dip it into their delicious chilli oil. So far, my personal favourite has been the Pulcinella, topped with spicy salami and fresh basil.

A Cosy, Neighbourhood Gem in Hanwell

The team at L’oro di Napoli are just genuinely friendly. Whenever I’ve picked up food, they’ve used my name when handing it over. A small thing, but it leaves an impression. What’s also great is how connected they are to the area. Since moving here, I’ve seen them pop up at local events, even the big ones like the Hanwell Hootie, usually outside serving calzones or cannoli. It shows they’re not just running a business here, they’re part of the neighbourhood.

Inside, it’s got a proper Neapolitan look — light blue walls like a Napoli football kit, framed photos of Maradona, and little bursts of lemon yellow dotted around. It’s not over-designed, just bold and full of personality. That mix of colour and energy makes you want to stay, not just pop in and leave.

The food hits the right spot. You feel full, but not weighed down, ideal for when you want something satisfying without it slowing you down afterwards. It’s also the kind of place where you don’t feel out of place, however you show up. Just grab a table and enjoy it at your own pace. If you're up for it after, The Viaduct is just across the road for a drink, or there’s Hanwell Park if you’d rather walk it off.

Speedy and Reliable Takeaway Service

Two L’oro di Napoli takeaway pizzas served at home with Italian ham, homemade Caprese salad, and a bottle of Toscana wine.

Returning to the takeaway experience — I honestly can’t believe how quick it is. I live exactly a six-minute walk away, and most times, by the time I’ve placed my order through their website and walked over, it’s just being packed up. Perfect for locals, but also a great option for anyone visiting the nearby canals or heading to Hanwell Park for a pizza picnic.

The prices are also really reasonable. Most pizzas sit around the £13 mark, with a classic Margherita starting at £10, and the more indulgent options — like the Posillipo, topped with truffle oil, gorgonzola, and prosciutto, going up to £16. Compared to other nearby spots, it’s solid value. Anywhere offering cheaper pizza usually means a sharp drop in quality and anything more expensive doesn't feel justified, even if it is good quality. But here at L'oro di Napoli, it’s worth the extra couple of pounds for something that actually tastes like it’s from Italy. Even my Italian friend agrees — calling it, and I quote, “the best Italian pizza I’ve had since living in the UK.”

Why L’oro di Napoli Hanwell Is a Local Favourite You Can't Miss

L’oro di Napoli has quickly become one of my go-to takeaways in the area — right up there with the iconic Golden Chip of Hanwell. The difference is, while the Golden Chip has been part of Hanwell for decades and something I genuinely missed when I moved away, L’oro di Napoli is one of the newer additions that I’m genuinely thankful to have so close by, now I’m back.

What I really admire is how involved they are in the local scene. Like many small businesses in Hanwell, they support one another and play an active role in community events. The pizzas are always fast, always tasty, and there’s plenty of variety. The staff have also been consistently friendly — both with me and my girlfriend — whether we’re dining in or grabbing something to go. It’s that all-round experience that makes it hard to say no when someone suggests pizza there.

Travelling to Hanwell just for a pizza might sound a bit niche, but honestly — it’s worth it. Pair your visit with a stroll through Hanwell Park, say hello to the animals at the zoo, or take in the views at Brunel’s Viaduct. Or, if you’re coming from another part of West London, their second location in South Ealing is only 15 minutes away, ideal if you’re near Gunnersbury Park, Kew Palace, or out exploring Brentford for the day.

Let me know in the comments if you have eaten here or have a local pizza spot that you think can rival L'oro di Napoli.
